Andre Iguodala is currently under contract with the Memphis Grizzlies for roughly $17.2 million this season. The soon-to-be 36-year old wing has sat out the season while the Grizz seek a trade. Memphis would love to have their upcoming first-round draft pick back from the Boston Celtics, but I truly doubt that will happen.
But that is not the only issue negating Iggy's potential trade to Boston. Dollar-matching would certainly get in the way of any deal. Danny Ainge is not about to send Marcus Smart, Kemba Walker or Gordon Hayward to Memphis, and any other deal would involve sending four or five younger players to the Grizzlies. That is not about to happen either.
Despite the years of toiling on the hardwood, Andre can still play. He has always been a 2-way player with a locker room-friendly manner. The 3-time Champion and Finals MVP would fit into virtually any situation, and Ainge would love to have him on board. But the money doesn't add up, and a buyout seems unlikely at this juncture. But should a buyout occur, Danny will be on the phone very quickly - and so will many other Title contenders.
Iguodala would be a perfect addition to Boston's roster, at least for the remainder of this season. He will be a free agent this summer, and he will end up with a contender then, if not sooner. If we don't see a trade for Iggy by the February deadline, expect a buyout. Danny will be watching.
