With both Jayson Tatum and Enes Kanter out of action last night versus the Miami Heat, the wing pairing of Grant Williams and Semi Ojeleye accounted for 43 of the 56 bench minutes and provided some quiet-but-effective support for the 109-101 win. The duo combined for 12 points on 56% shooting (5-of-9) from the field, along with 10 rebounds and two steals.
In the above sequence, Semi was ignored by both the Miami defense and the Celtics offense. Such is his lot in life - at least as a Boston backup. In his third year in the NBA, his offensive game progression has been painfully slow, but it is moving in an upward direction.
GWill and Semi have similar physiques and skills. Both are 6'6" and 235 pounds of tenacious defense. One can only wonder how effective they could be with several more inches added to their height. The only question is whether Danny Ainge considers their size and skills as redundant and whether one of them won't be in a Celtics uniform next season.
The only other Celtics player off the bench last night was Brad Wanamaker, and the reserves have been trimmed down to the basics. The positive aspect of this is that Semi and GWill are getting a good run. That may come in handy in the post-season, but if only they were in the 6'8"-6'9" range. But let's just hope they are prepared for the tension and intensity of the playoffs.

Look at how open Semi Ojeleye (37) gets on this sequence

it’s funny that grant williams and semi ojeleye are pretty much the only celtics to hit a corner 3 this year.

This is defence I’ve been waiting all-season for from Grant Williams.
