Al Horford started the 2021-22 season off strong and active, but the likable vet seems to be slowing down. Or is something else going on? Here is the October-to-January comparison:
October: 30.3 MPG - 13.0 PPG - 10.5 RPG - 3.0 APG - 3.8 BPG - 44% FG - 21% 3s
January: 26.9 MPG - 5.2 PPG - 6.0 RPG - 2.8 APG - 1.2 BPG - 34% FG - 25% 3s
Granted, Al's minutes are down, but this is not the same guy with saw in late October. Is it age? Injuries? Both? Or is Brad Stevens taking it easy on Horford while visualizing a trade for the veteran center. This from wjsy at CelticsBlog:
"...Horford’s slump could just be a blip. Even if it does signal an irreversible regression, Al Horford at 80% is still a very productive NBA player, but at some point, his contract may be worth more than his play on the floor."
Regardless of any plans to trade-or-not-trade Al, Celtics fans should hope that Horford's slump is indeed a blip and we will see a resurgence prior to the trade deadline.
