On January 10, all standard contracts will be guaranteed for the remainder of the season. Luke Kornet already is guaranteed $1.1 milliuon of his $2.1 million for this season. The remaining one-million remains in question until January 10. Expect the Celtics to give him that one-million in the next day or so. He has shown value as a big man that can rebound, block shots and score close to the hoop with efficiency.
Justin Jackson is another matter. He has done nothing to warrant the team hanging on to him, and he is set to earn $2.1 million this season (non guaranteed). Expect Boston to release him by January 10. He has averaged a mere 4.5 minutes per game, while producing 0.9 PPG, 0.5 RPG and 0.5 APG.
If Jackson's release takes place, that puts the Celtics roster at 13 players. Teams are allowed to carry only 13 players for a limited time, so expect one of the current two vacancies to be filled shortly.
